Our mission is to support the curriculum of Lutheran High School West.
The IMC staff is dedicated to serving the academic needs of the students and teachers, while providing access to current, appropriate print and non-print informational resources. In order to develop effective users of ideas and information, we help to educate students, teachers and staff members in all components of information literacy.
STAFF
Mrs. Abby Fenske, IMC Director (BS Education, Malone College, Canton, OH)
Mrs. Ann Coulter, IMC Assistant (BA Business Administration, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH)
SERVICES
IMC Opens at 7:30AM Monday-Friday (when school is in session)
- Provide a quiet, attractive and friendly place for study.
- Provide a variety of resources for assignments and information needs.
- Provide instruction and help in the use of library information, resources and equipment.
- Provide free copies of pages from Reference material.
Upon arrival in the IMC, students are greeted by a helpful, friendly staff; plus, a variety of attractive, educational displays that emphasize the theme for the month. New resource arrivals are prominently displayed throughout the IMC. Tables and chairs, computer stations and a rocking chair provide formal and informal seating.
Resources are purchased based on reviews from several library selection tools. Websites are also evaluated and linked to the LW website. Book talks, bibliographies and class discussions are methods used to create interest in IMC resources.
The IMC staff provides systematic instruction in information literacy beginning with freshman orientation that centers upon resource selection for a mini research paper assigned in an English class. Throughout the entire school year, teachers, representing a variety of disciplines; bring classes to the IMC for research. A brochure detailing the web resources and listing the available electronic subscription databases with passwords is distributed to all students. MLA/APA documentation format can be accessed through Research Paper Tips Works Cited: MLA/APA

GENERAL AND STUDY HALL GUIDELINES/PROCEDURES
- The IMC is a place to read, study, or conduct research QUIETLY before, during and after school. Drinks and food are not allowed.
- During class time students may drop into the IMC if they have a pass signed by a teacher.
- Students may also come to the IMC during their study hall periods. There is a sign-up binder at the IMC circulation desk with attendance forms for each period. Each student must sign his/her own name for the appropriate period. Space is limited, so the earlier students sign-up, the better. Study hall sign-up is done before school, between periods, or at lunch of the current day.
- The sign-up sheets are taken to the regular study halls every period--students do not need to go to the study hall locations first, but are asked to report directly and promptly to the IMC. Tardies will be issued for arrivals after the bell, unless a teacher-signed, late pass is presented to the IMC staff. Students must remain in the IMC for the entire period.
- Teachers often reserve class time for IMC research. Because of size limitations, the IMC staff may close the IMC for students from study halls. In this case a sign will be posted on the IMC door before the start of the school day listing which periods are closed.
