Joseph King has spent his entire 40-year career teaching English and coaching three sports at Lutheran West. He has impacted literally thousands of lives in the Lutheran West community during his long career in the classroom and on the athletic field. Joe has coached Longhorn football for a total of 23 years, including six years as a head coach, and has coached Longhorn basketball for 26 years including three years as the head coach. He also served as the school’s Athletic Director for five years.
Coach King has been the face of Lutheran West track and field for nearly three decades. He has been the head coach of both the men’s and women’s programs for 29 years leading Lutheran West to two MAC-8 Conference Championships, and was twice named MAC-8 Coach of the Year. Coach King has also helped 23 track and field athletes to reach the State Track Meet.
Joe is a recipient of the Paul Arnzen Award from the Ohio Basketball Coaches Association, has received Lutheran West’s Wegman Award for his teaching excellence and the school’s LEADS Award for his significant contributions to Lutheran West.
Joe is a native of Summit Lake, Wisconsin . He graduated from
Concordia
University in River Forest, Illinois and received his Masters Degree from
Kent
State . Joe has been involved for years in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Cleveland and is a member of
Messiah
Lutheran
Church in
Fairview
Park . Joe and his wife Ruth are residents of Lakewood . Their daughter Sarah (LW 01) has worked in Africa as a member of the Peace Corps and is currently living and working in Texas .
