BROOKLYN -- As Yogi Berra once said, “It’s deja vu all over again.”  Last night for the home team Brooklyn it was.  One month and two days separated the games, but not much else.  Both games were started by Brooklyn senior John Hitterman.  In neither game did he last past the first out of the second inning.  In the first game he was hammered for nine runs.  Last night he was knocked out after giving up eight runs.  One month ago he gave up six hits, only one of which was for extra bases.  Last night however, he was battered all over the park giving up nine hits—six of them going for extra bases.

It all started with a leadoff triple from sophomore Mike Holick.  Holick scored when the next batter, fellow sophomore Ryan Jones, knocked him in with a double.  After sophomore Cal Thomay singled and Jones scored on a wild pitch, Thomay was knocked in on an RBI double to right by sophomore Billy Valletto.  After a groundout, a strikeout, and a walk to senior Matt Bekebrede, the Longhorns pulled off the improbable when speedsters Valletto and Bekebrede safely executed a double steal.  Brooklyn starter John Hitterman escaped the inning getting junior Adam Moses to fly out to right.

The second inning saw more of the same.  After senior Colin Dennis grounded out, Holick doubled to center but was gunned out at third by Brooklyn Center Fielder Nick Ghann.  The next pitch Jones hammered a home run to left.  The next batter, Cal Thomay hit a laser beam over the left field fence for the second home run of the inning.  After Valletto singled, Chislow walked, and both runners moved up on an errant pickoff attempt.  Both Valletto and Chislow scored on junior Caleb O’Hara’s single.

That would do it for John Hitterman.

Brooklyn tried to make a game of it, scoring twice in the bottom of the first and three times in the fourth all the while holding the Longhorns scoreless in the third, fourth and fifth.  Ryan Jones then squelched all Brooklyn hope, turning an 8-5 game into 11-5 with his second home run of the game.  Jones homered to right with two outs and two on in the sixth, knocking in Bekebrede who had singled and junior Mike Hofener who had worked a walk the batter before.

Chislow picked up the win, moving his record to 6-0 for the season.  The Longhorns finished the season at 19-7 and 11-2 in conference.
