COLUMBIA -- The Longhorns headed into the Columbia game understanding that no matter the outcome of this game, their season would come to end. This make-up game was a senior night for Columbia and the Longhorns were looking to take revenge from their defeat earlier in the season. The Longhorns started off solid, playing good defense and controlling the pace of the game. Junior Marcus Spelich had an early three that gave momentum to Lutheran West. They played solid throughout the first quarter and held a six-point lead.

The second quarter continued to bode well for the Longhorns as their 2-3 zone seemed to slow the Raiders. The Longhorns continued to battle hard as junior James Ranc continued to flash his offensive skill set. The Longhorns were able to score on transition which kick started their confidence and defense. At the end of the first half the Longhorns found themselves winning by thirteen.

The third quarter began to give the Longhorns a bit of a scare, but still the two teams battled. The Horns came out solid but some quick buckets began to cut into the ‘Horns lead. Columbia put pressure on the Longhorns but the Horns moved right through it scoring on most opportunities. The Horns showed great patience and poise as they looked for the best shot possible. At the end of the third quarter the Longhorns maintained their 13 point lead.

The fourth quarter seemed to be dominated by the Longhorn’s tough defense and rebounding. Junior Justin Zuendel stepped up playing great defense in the middle. He blocked shot after shot in the fourth quarter and seemed to get most of the rebounds. The Longhorns also played well on offense, as they exhibited patience and found good shot after good shot. The final score was 58-43 in favor of the Longhorns. Ranc and Spelich led the way for the Longhorns combining for 38 points. Senior Zach Hausmann battled hard in the middle and helped out on the glass for the ‘Horns. The Longhorns ended their season with a win, finishing with high hopes for next year.
