CVCA -- CVCA has haunted the Longhorns for years in the playoffs, after defeating them three times in basketball and once in baseball in the last six years. This time the Longhorns were hoping to buck the trend and find a way to break through with a victory. They started off well as junior James Ranc opened the way with an early bucket. The Longhorns continued to battle, but the Royals also fought hard getting most of the rebounds. From the beginning it seemed as if the Longhorns lack of rebounding would doom them, but still at the end of the first they were winning 16-14.

The second quarter was a tough quarter for the Longhorns as they only scored five points in the entire quarter. They struggled with turnovers and just seemed as if they could not make a shot. The Royals were able to take advantage as they headed into halftime with eight-point lead.

At the start of the third quarter the Longhorn offense was bolstered by a strong performance from junior Marcus Spelich, who scored five unanswered points for the Longhorns. The game was a physical one but both teams seemed to battle through it. Every time it seemed the Longhorns were finally going to get over the hump, CVCA would find a way to end their run. The Longhorns did a good job stopping the Royals on first chance opportunities but the Royals found ways to score quite a few second chance points. Senior Zach Hausmann and junior Justin Zuendel battled hard against their defensive assignments but both found themselves in foul trouble.

The fourth quarter was a great battle between two evenly matched teams. The Royals were able to push the lead to six before senior Louis Durban hit a three that cut the deficit in half. The Royals thought they had put the Longhorns away numerous times, but yet they still continued to battle and put themselves back into the game. Spelich had a shot rim out that would have cut the lead down to one. After this missed opportunity, the Longhorns could not get the lead back to within four as they could not convert on the offensive end. The final score was 53-49 but the Longhorns were disappointed because they let the game slip away from them.
