ROCKY RIVER --
The Lutheran West Softball Team did not finish strong in terms of victories, but what they did gain was growth and development over the course of the 2010 season.
While the season was disappointing, this did not completely overshadow the positives. Varsity player senior Kim Kowalski commented, “It was a good season overall. I wish we could have won more. We needed to focus and concentrate better.” Kowalski also tied the record number of triples with five this season. Coach Mark Stover said that they were encouraged during the second half of the season, and that the team had the will to win.
Their chemistry developed throughout the season. Stover stressed that the team especially grew defensively. Kowalski explained that what she enjoyed most was that the team could get along and play their best.
The highlight of the year for Stover was winning their first sectional playoff game. He remarked that it was a lot of fun. Winning that game was an accomplishment for the team.
Looking ahead to next season, Coach Stover explained that the team has a great core of juniors who will be returning next year. Stover remarked, “Softball takes a lot of time and commitment. The more the girls put into it, the more productive we can be."
