REGIONAL FINALS --
Junior Brad Watson not only broke his personal record time in the 800 meter run last night at Navarre Fairless, he smashed the school record en route to finishing third in the race and qualifying for the State Meet in Columbus with a 1:57. Watson is the first state qualifier from Lutheran West since Karla Everhardt (class of 2005) in the long jump and the first male since Jared Miller (class of 2002) qualified in the high jump.
“We knew that Brad had the conditioning and the ability to run that fast, it was just a question of whether he would hit his 200 meter paces,” said LW athletic director Joel Gesch in an interview after the race. “Coach Jeff Vasiloff went over his marks with him over and over again on the way down to
Navarre
. He hit every one of them except for the first 200 meters, but he made up for that right away in the second 200 [meters].”
“Brad capped off a great year for himself with his effort,” said Coach Joe King. “Coach Vasiloff set up a great plan, and Brad executed it well.”
